Sure the jokes may be offensive to those watching their weight, and the action here definitely firmly rooted in the family friendly zone, but there's a certain innocent charm to this story about a security officer stuck at the wrong place at the wrong time, and being called upon to go beyond the call of duty. Not that he has any choice of course, given that the bad guys have taken over the mall he works in, and has as hostage his child and the woman that he has a massive crush on.
It's Die Hard meets Home Alone in the kind of antics that Kevin James' Paul Blart pull off, and thanks to the actor's charismatic on screen presence, you'd still find room for a chuckle or two even though you are fully aware that the story's none too intelligent and quite cliche, but one can definitely take a leaf out of the mall cop's dedication to his job, even as those around him succumb to the stereotypical view of complacency and laziness that plagued the profession everywhere.
And yes, Kevin James sure is agile on that Segway Personal Transporter! I want one too!
