It's not everyday that you get launch event for the DVD of a local movie, and the last that I can remember (and actually made it a point to set aside time and attend) was for Singapore Dreaming's, back in December 2006.
Gone Shopping the movie was released theatrically late last year, and this evening marked the official launch of the director's cut DVD at the IMM Mall. Director Wee Li Lin and main star Kym Ng were on hand to introduce and talk about the movie, as well as pose for photographs and play some simple games with contestants who were chosen from a relatively modest turn out for the event. Capping the festivities were an auction session of two goodie bags containing a mini-poster, the DVD and a limited edition tote bag (of only 100 being produced), which went for S$120 and S$100 to benefit the Make A Wish Singapore, as well as to sign autographs for those who bought the disc today at a special price of S$15.
Here are some pictures taken from the event:
as well as excerpts of videos (in English and Mandarin) with Kym and Li Lin discussing Gone Shopping.
The director's cut edition of the movie released on DVD is the version that travelled to multiple festivals around the world, and which is quite different from the commercial release, I heard. Guess I'll have to find time to watch it soon, and publish the verdict here on A Nutshell Review, as soon as I can. Stay tuned!
