Muay Thai Chaiya

Pecking Crane Attacks Elephant Tusks!

You think you've seen all about Muay Thai after watching Ong Bak, Tom Yum Goong and Beautiful Boxer? Think again!

Muay Thai Chaiya is an ancient variation of the martial arts whose philosophy lies with being defensive, and looking for opportunities for deadly counterattacks. Suitable for those who aren't offensive in nature, but no doubt still possessing enough chops to disable an opponent with well calculated moves.

However, the movie is a mixed bag. Part Blood Brothers, Part generic Hong Kong Triad movie, Part Romance courtesy of the template (of all choices!) from Michael Bay's Pearl Harbor. Too many melodramatic moments diluted the hard hitting action here, and none too many explanations and demonstrations to distinguish and differentiate this form against the other Muay Thai formats. Seemed to dwell a bit on the foulness of the underground Muay Thai circuit too.
