As the film When Hainan Meets Teochew (当海南遇上潮州) preps itself for another run at The Arts House later this week, you may be interested to know that the film is going to Tokyo as it's been selected to open the Asian Queer Film Festival. Director Han Yew Kwang mentioned in a press release that he hopes the screening of the film in Japan will help promote a stronger exchange of film culture between the two countries, and also hopes that the Japanese audience will enjoy the film as much as the audience in Singapore.
You can read my review of the film here.
Still on news about local films making waves overseas, Chai Yee-Wei's Blood Ties (還魂) has been released on DVD format late last year and is available at all major DVD shops. It's also making its theatrical run in Taiwan, so to friends over there you now have the opportunity to view it on the big screen. My review of the film can be found here.
