Just last month alone saw Han Yew Kwang's 18g Pictures go on a successful limited run with its debut indie feature When Hainan Meets Teochew (当海南遇上潮州), tickling the funny bones of audiences at Sinema Old School and The Arts House. Audience numbers steadily grew with each subsequent week of screening, and sold out at The Arts House on a weekday night of its third week run. What's more, the director and his cast also turned up at both locations, sometimes unscheduled, to conduct Q&A sessions, which I had unfortunately missed its entire slate. I'm pretty sure the sessions were a riot, since this is a comedic film we're talking about!
For those who had missed the film during its initial run, fret not as due to popular demand, When Hainan Meets Teochew (当海南遇上潮州) will be back for one more week at The Arts House from 13 Jan 2011! So if you haven't managed to catch what's been trailblazing the local film scene toward the end of 2010, or want to see it again, then here's your chance, hesitate no more! Bring your friends and family, and perhaps their negative notions of local films may change for the better!
Sessions are as follows: 7:30pm nightly (except for Sundays), with additional 3:30pm sessions on Sat and Sun, and an additional 6pm session on Sunday. Tickets are priced at $10 with concessions for students, senior citizens, NSFs and Art House members, and tickets are already on sale now.
